Arsenal backed to complete Isco transfer as Mikel Arteta sent Emile Smith Rowe warning

Arsenal: Has Arteta found a winning formula for Gunners?

Arsenal need to sign a creative player like Isco this month because they cannot rely on Emile Smith Rowe for the rest of the season, according to Gunners fan and ex-Tottenham striker Darren Bent. Real Madrid star Isco is one of a host of attacking midfielders linked with a move to the Emirates. Arsenal have scored just 16 goals in as many Premier League games so far this season, so are in need of extra creativity.

Isco has started just three La Liga matches so far this term but it remains to be seen if Real would be willing to let him leave this month.

Reports claim Arsenal are exploring a six-month loan deal for the Spain international.

Gunners academy graduate Smith Rowe has impressed in the No 10 role in the two wins against Chelsea and Burnley in the last week.

But Bent believes it would be unfair to expect the 20-year-old to play every week and backs Mikel Arteta to sign a player like Isco to balance out the workload.

“I think bringing in a player like Isco with his quality I think would be a good signing,” Bent said on talkSPORT.

“I know things are going well at the minute but you need cover.

“Smith Rowe’s been very good the last couple of games but he’s only young.

“We know Smith Rowe’s stepped up but we cannot all of a sudden depend on him for the rest of the season.

“He’s young, he’s only played a couple of games, but someone like Isco might raise the dressing room, the quality, the front players will quite enjoy playing with a player like him, his creative nature.

“We need that type of player, [Mesut] Ozil doesn’t look like he’s going to come back.

“I would have had him back in January but if you’re not and you can get him out the door, then maybe do that and bring Isco in.

“You can never have enough good players in a football club and Arsenal need certainly some more of them, so Isco would be a superb signing I think.”

Arsenal announced the departure of Sead Kolasinac on Thursday, with the left-back to rejoin Schalke on loan.

Speaking at his press conference earlier in the day, Arteta said he would be looking to trim his squad this month.

“Well, we have a large squad, we knew that and a lot of things we wanted to do in the summer, we couldn’t accomplish for different reasons,” Arteta said.

“There are some players that are going to go on loan, they are going to leave, and that’s the priority at the moment.

“We cannot sustain the numbers that we have in terms of substitutions.

“We are looking to do that and then we will see if we have the right opportunities in the positions that we need some more help.

“We are working with the club to find that.”
