Tommy Fleetwood sinks ice-cool no-look chip as fans hail ‘unreal’ Ryder Cup star

Golf fans on social media were left hailing Team Europe ace Tommy Fleetwood as 'unreal' after he produced an ice-cold no-look chip at the Ryder Cup.

On day two at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Team Europe continued to dominate the 44th staging of the Ryder Cup, winning three of the four morning foursomes to stretch their lead to 9 1/2 – 2 1/2 over Zach Johnson's Team USA. Come the close of play, Team USA managed to recover slightly, with the score sitting at 10 1/2 – 5 1/2, setting up a potentially magnificent final day of golf in Italy.

However, one of the moments of the day came during Fleetwood and Rasmus Hojgaard's clash against Max Homa and Brian Harman's in their fourball match. While the European pair lost, Fleetwood produced one of the shots of the day, sinking an outrageous ice-cool chip in on the 16th green that left him celebrating with his arms outstretched.

With his ball lying in the rough, Fleetwood nonchalantly played a sublime stroke with the broadcast camera following it perfectly from behind into the hole at the 16th green where the European supporters erupted with cheers. Just before the ball dropped in the hole, Fleetwood turned away from it, looking at the crowd as if to say he knew what was about to happen.

And it's safe to say golf fans on social media enjoyed what they saw from Fleetwood, even if he and Hojgaard did go on to lose their match. One fan wrote: "Tommy Fleetwood is RIDICULOUS."

On a day that looked as though it was going to be an even bleaker one for Team USA, Johnson's men managed to stage a minor fightback to end the day just five points down, thanks in part to the efforts of Patrick Cantlay and Wyndham Clark.

"It was pretty subdued all day, we weren’t leading until the last hole," Cantlay said following his and Clark's win over Matt Fitzpatrick and Rory McIlroy.

"The crowd was on me all day, I just used it as fuel. Hopefully we can build a lot off this small amount of momentum we’ve got going. I told Wyndham we’re going to use it all day. I have never had so many standing ovations walking from tee to green."
