Sam Burns fires F-bomb at European crowd as golf fans dub US star ’embarrassing’

Sam Burns fired a savage F-bomb at the European crowd during day two of the Ryder Cup.

Burns suffered a woeful debut Ryder Cup performance on Friday and sought to redeem himself in Saturday's session. He and Collin Morikawa took on the undefeated partnership of Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland in Rome.

The 27-year-old proved a bright spark in an otherwise dismal showing for the USA as he offered some signs of life on Saturday afternoon. And the usually laid back Louisianan uncharacteristically let off some steam at the expense of the home crowd after rolling in a three-foot putt at the sixth green to win the hole.

Burns had reportedly been subject to some friendly abuse from rival fans. They had told him to “get a haircut” after his bold decision to rock a mullet.

He duly retaliated by cupping his ears and shouting: “What’s that? I can’t hear you. I can’t f***ing hear you!!!” That understandably did not go down too well with rival fans as they took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to mock the American.

One user wrote: “It’s 9.5 to 2.5 this is embarrassing,” while another pointed out: “Has he seen the scoreboard?”

A third added mocked: “My brother in Christ, you’re down seven,” and a fourth added: “Same energy as the team celebration in the end zone after an interception being down 28-3.”

As well as the Champions League, TNT Sports will also be offering sports fans access to games across the Premier League, Europa League, Serie A and much more.

Others chimed in by commenting: “None of this is cool when you’re getting pummelled,” and “Someone tell him the score.”

Burns’ anger may have also stemmed from the fact the Americans were left facing a drubbing after Day Two’s morning session. Europe built on their historic first-day lead with three more points, resulting in a 9 1/2 – 2 1/2 deficit heading into the fourballs.
