Max Verstappen seen shopping for ‘luxury’ buy as star looks to reward himself

Max Verstappen is reportedly planning to buy a yacht as the Red Bull ace splashes the cash after a third consecutive World Championship triumph. The Dutchman enjoyed a remarkable season in 2023, breezing to the Drivers’ Championship title with a record points haul.

Verstappen is reported to earn around £43m per year. He technically did not earn anything for his world title success as the prize pot is shared among teams rather than drivers.

But the 26-year-old is certainly keen to celebrate his victory in style after reportedly being seen in the Overmarine shipyard in Darsena, Milan. According to Italian publication La Nazione, Verstappen arrived with his girlfriend Kelly Piquet and members of his entourage.

The report claims that he is ‘very interested’ in buying a yacht from the famous dock and is in negotiations with the shipyard over buying one of their vessels. He is yet to complete the purchase, with talks still ongoing.

Verstappen reportedly ‘opened talks’ with the shipyard on Friday. It remains to be seen if the Red Bull star will use the new yacht as a holiday destination for his family.

Speaking recently about his family, Verstappen insisted ‘time will tell’ when asked about his marriage plans with partner Piquet. Verstappen has been dating the Brazilian model – the daughter of Nelson Piquet – since 2020.

“Marry? Me? Now you’ve publicly pressured me into saying a date,” he joked to Blick. “I don’t know, time will tell. Right now, I’m very, very happy with Kelly. But personally I don’t have a schedule for when I’m going to get down on one knee in front of her. It’s all supposed to happen spontaneously.”

On the track, Verstappen is hoping he has more competition in 2024. He wrapped up his latest World Championship title two months before the end of the season.

“Running the same season will be almost impossible,” he told NOS. “Of course, we will try to develop our car further, but the other teams have learned a lot from us. I hope there won’t be more competition, but I expect there to be.

“Every weekend it was a different team that showed itself just as well. McLaren, for example, seemed to have it all sorted out for a while, but then had a dip again. They seem to know which way to go and there are good people working there.”
