Listen to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jamie Redknapp has slammed the &#8216;terrible&#8217; handball rule after Arsenal&#8217;s Kai Havertz saw a last-gasp goal disallowed against Aston Villa.<\/p>\n<p>The two high-flying teams faced off at Villa Park on Saturday evening in a top-of-the-table clash.<\/p>\n<p>John McGinn&#8217;s seventh-minute strike was enough for Unai Emery&#8217;s side as they won their 15th home league game in a row, but Arsenal thought they had equalised late on.<\/p>\n<p>Havertz turned the ball home after a scramble in the box, but he was adjudged to have handled by referee\u00a0Jarred Gillett, before the decision was confirmed by VAR.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, Redknapp &#8211; who discussed the decision post-match with Karen Carney on Sky Sports\u00a0&#8211; hit out out the laws of the game, insisting they were &#8216;ridiculous&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/09\/21\/78776155-0-image-a-1_1702155708733.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Jamie Redknapp slammed the handball law as &#8216;terrible&#8217; after Kai Havertz had a goal ruled out<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/09\/21\/78776337-0-image-a-2_1702155736563.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Havertz thought he had equalised against Aston Villa but he was adjudged to have handled<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/09\/21\/78776339-0-image-a-3_1702155770686.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>After a long check, VAR confirmed referee\u00a0Jarred Gillett&#8217;s on-field decision was correct<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I mean, unfortunately, it&#8217;s the rule,&#8217; he fumed. &#8216;It&#8217;s a terrible rule that any time a ball touches a player&#8217;s hand and if a goal occurs after then it becomes a handball, which is ridiculous when you think about it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It&#8217;s a rubbish rule. How can that be handball? It looks like it could hit Matty Cash. It&#8217;s just rebounding around, it maybe drops, it&#8217;s ball to hand.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I think that we&#8217;re getting ourselves in such a mess with these rules all the time. How on earth can that be handball when he&#8217;s not meant to do it? It&#8217;s a rubbish law.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>When questioned, Mikel Arteta refused to openly criticise the officials as he cryptically said: &#8216;Clear and obvious. That\u2019s my opinion, that\u2019s all I can say. I can only repeat: clear and obvious.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/09\/21\/78776335-12845763-image-a-4_1702155877554.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Arsenal&#8217;s players were fuming with the decision and Villa ultimately held out for a 1-0 victory<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>However, Redknapp felt something had to be done and called on the sport&#8217;s lawmakers to make a change to the rules.<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8216;If we&#8217;re trying to help football, we&#8217;re trying to improve it and make it a better spectacle with more goals. The powers that be have to look at that and go, it&#8217;s a bad rule.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It has grazed his arm, he&#8217;s not meant to do it.
