Crisis? Not for us – Erik ten Hag can see Man Utd progress after Chelsea win

Dimitar Berbatov has vented his frustrations about Manchester United’s inconsistency this season with a foul-mouthed rant. The straight-talking former Bulgarian striker doubts whether Erik ten Hag’s side can build on Wednesday’s win against Chelsea when AFC Bournemouth visit Old Trafford this weekend.

United have won six of their last eight Premier League games and beat Chelsea 2-1 last time out, moving into sixth, just three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

But the Red Devils have lost six of their opening 15 league outings and endured misery in other competitions.

Newcastle United earned vengeance for February’s Carabao Cup final by thumping the hosts 3-0 at Old Trafford in the fourth round.

And United are rock bottom of Group A in the Champions League after five games, winning just once despite scoring 12 goals, more than leaders Bayern Munich.

Berbatov has unleashed his annoyance over his former club’s struggles this term, stressing that Ten Hag needs to orchestrate more performances like the one against Chelsea.

“Inconsistency is always frustrating. It was the same when I was playing,” Berbatov told Betfair.

“Sometimes we’d have great games followed by two or three s**t games, and then again, you’d show what you can do. Of course, back in the day, those performances weren’t as regular as they are now.

“When I watch the games now, I get p****d off and angry. I understand because I’ve been there, and I know what can happen.

“It’s easier said than done, but Man United need to make sure they don’t wait until their backs are against the wall. You have moments like this where the press is on top of you, rumours are flying.

“And in the dressing room, you have to rally together and say, ‘Boys, we need to show them [the media] what we can do and that we’re behind the manager’.
