<\/p>\nShay Given believes Everton need to channel their points deduction into an 'us against the world' mentality to beat the drop this season.<\/p>\n
Tthe Premier League handed the Toffees a record 10-point deduction for having violated their profit and sustainability rules, a decision which left Everton supporters furious. The huge penalty, which Everton have appealed, saw Sean Dyche's side drop into the relegation zone, despite having picked up wins against Brentford, West Ham and Crystal Palace, as well as a draw against Brighton.<\/p>\n
Heading into their clash against Nottingham Forest last weekend, the Toffees sat rock bottom of the Premier League due to Burnley's 5-0 drubbing of Sheffield United, with the Clarets leapfrogging Everton.<\/p>\n

Everton managed to defeat Nottingham Forest 1-0 courtesy of a Dwight McNeil strike, which moved them up to 18th, just two points behind 17th placed Luton Town.<\/p>\n
Had they not been handed the points deduction, the Toffees would sit 12th on 17 points, nearly halfway to safety this term. Thursday night will see Dyche and co come up against a Newcastle United side battling to keep pace at the top of the Premier League amidst an injury crisis on Tyneside.<\/p>\n

And ex-Newcastle star Given, who will be working on the Everton clash against the Magpies at Goodison Park for Amazon Prime. reckons the players and fans need to lean into creating an 'us against the world' mentality in order to stay up this term. "Everton had a big victory at the weekend as well on the back of the points deduction they've had," Given told Daily Star Sport<\/b>.<\/p>\n
"I think I was just looking and they'd be up to 12th in the league had they not had their points deduction. So it's a difficult one for them, the players and the manager. But they've just got to have a 'them against the world' sort of mentality.<\/p>\n

He added: "It's about keeping their heads down and trying to get out of the relegation zone."<\/p>\n
In the wake of their huge points deduction, Everton supporters have been increasingly vocal about how dismayed they are at the decision which was handed down by an independent panel. Ahead of their clash against Manchester United, in a game they lost 3-0, Toffees supporters en masse waved flyers with the Premier League logo on which had the word 'corrupt' underneath it.<\/p>\n
And their frustrations also saw them light up their supporter coaches ahead of the win against Nottingham Forest with an LED "Premier League Corrupt" message too.<\/p>\n
