Gareth Southgate has been urged to give Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento a call regarding a future England call-up in light of his impressive form for the Magpies. The former Chelsea and Southampton ace starred in Newcastle’s win over Manchester United on Saturday, with Anthony Gordon’s second-half goal condemning the Red Devils to another defeat.

Livramento, who has been playing in a slightly unnatural left-back role as of late, was also on top form in his side’s Champions League draw with Paris Saint-Germain in midweek. His performance against United was met with high praise from Gary Lineker, Danny Murphy and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, who all suggested that he could soon be in Southgate’s thoughts.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Lineker said: “I think Livramento might get a call from Gareth Southgate because I think he’s one of those players who could play for a couple of countries.”

Shearer seemed to agree with Lineker’s assessment, replying: “He’s been magnificent for Newcastle.” Murphy then added: “We’ve got to get him quickly. Get him capped, because he is a super player.”

It comes just days after Murphy initially called for Livramento to receive an England call-up as a matter of urgency, with the 21-year-old eligible to represent the Three Lions through his country of birth, Scotland through his mother’s side of the family or Portugal through his father.

Speaking on The Take On, Murphy said: “I’ve got to give a shoutout to Livramento before we get to the VAR, because I know he’s waited his time to get in the team, but since he’s been in, what a player he looks. Great one on one defender, good going forward, can play left or right-back.

“We’ve got to get him in the England squad quick before he chooses Portugal. There’s only Luke Shaw ahead of him, for me, for form.”
