It looked to be heading for a draw when VAR checked a potential foul on Harry Wilson in stoppage time at the end of the game. Stuart Atwell advised Salisbury to visit the monitor and he awarded the pen, which Willian scored for the winner.

Eagle-eyed viewers caught lino West with his mouth wide open as the decision was made, with one asking: "Did you see linesman laughing his head off when Fulham were awarded second penalty #PremierLeagueCorrupt."

"I saw it live, very strange to see him laughing his head off. An explanation is needed," replied a second, while a third fumed: "F***ing linesman laughing when second pen was given."

A fourth bemoaned: "If they’re was any screenshot to sum up our season, this right here sums it up to a tee." And a fifth added: "The officials are even laughing at Wolves when giving these decisions now."

Wolves boss O'Neil headed to the officials' room to discuss their decisions post-match. He also took issue with Carlos Vinicius avoiding a red card for butting heads with Max Kilman and Tim Ream escaping a second yellow card when fouling Hwang for their penalty.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, he claimed Salisbury admitted the first Fulham spot kick was a mistake and Atwell should've instructed him to review it. Nelson Semedo looked to have won the ball before bringing down Tom Cairney.

Pundit Jamie Carragher believed he could feel hard done by for the stoppage-time incident too, saying: "I think again it’s extremely harsh, and for me the referee has got an unbelievable position and sees it, shakes his head straight away.

"My problem with that is once the referee hasn’t given it, that for me should not be overturned and given as a penalty. I don’t think it is a penalty. VAR now thinks it’s a clear and obvious error, but I don’t see it."

O'Neil added: "The Nelson one has been admitted by the referee that they made a mistake. The one on Harry Wilson we disagreed on a little bit, he believed there was enough contact there to give a penalty, but I think it’s really soft.

"I think you could argue that two go against us, but all four of those situations go against us so it’s a tough one for the lads, the supporters and myself to take because we have been here a lot of times this season. It was tough because we didn’t deserve that."
