Sheffield United have condemned the \u2018racist, abusive and threatening\u2019 messages sent to their goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, while Tottenham have promised to take \u2018the strongest possible action\u2019 against the culprits.<\/p>\n
Spurs came from behind in injury time to beat Sheffield United 2-1 in north London on Saturday afternoon, but Foderingham revealed after the contest that he had been abused online.<\/p>\n
The goalkeeper wrote on Instagram: \u2018I don\u2019t mind opposition fans calling me every name under the sun. But be easy with the racism and family threats. Think before you type.\u2019<\/p>\n
In a statement on Sunday, Foderingham\u2019s club wrote: \u2018Sheffield United condemn the racist, abusive and threatening messages that have been sent to Wes Foderingham after yesterday\u2019s game against Spurs.<\/p>\n
\u2018The club will now work with relevant bodies to investigate and support Wes.<\/p>\n
\u2018There is no room for racism in our game.\u2019<\/p>\n
Tottenham\u2019s own statement read: \u2018We are disgusted to hear of racist, abusive and threatening messages sent to Wes Foderingham following yesterday\u2019s match.<\/p>\n
\u2018The Club stands firmly against all forms of discrimination and will cooperate fully with Sheffield United and the relevant bodies in their investigations.<\/p>\n
\u2018We shall not hesitate in taking the strongest possible action, including Club bans, against any so-called fan found responsible.\u2019<\/p>\n
