Harry Maguire looked forlorn as he scored an own goal during England’s clash with Scotland on Tuesday. The defender had been jeered by the Scottish supporters ever since coming on as a substitute and his error only made matters worse.<\/p>\n
Maguire was left out of the starting XI by England boss\u00a0Gareth Southgate. Lewis Dunk and Marc Guehi were given the chance to impress at Hampden Park.<\/p>\n
However, Guehi was replaced at half-time by Maguire. The\u00a0Manchester United\u00a0man has regularly come under criticism from opposing supporters of late.<\/p>\n
He has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford and he has often been ridiculed for still keeping his place in Southgate’s England squad. England led 2-0 when Maguire came on thanks to first-half goals from Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham.<\/p>\n
But that didn’t stop Scotland fans from giving Maguire stick. He was cheered sarcastically every time he made a successful pass.<\/p>\n

More info<\/p>\n But it got a whole lot worse for Maguire when he turned an Andy Robertson cross into his own net in the 67th minute. He left Aaron Ramsdale helpless in goal as he poked it past the Arsenal No 1.<\/p>\n Cameras quickly cut to Maguire and he cut a sorrowful figure. Scotland were back in the game after failing to threaten England’s goal for most of the first hour.<\/p>\n Ally McCoist was co-commentating and hit out at the England defending. He said: “It seemed to be the only way that Scotland were going to get a goal, a defensive mix-up.<\/p>\n “Maguire sticks out his left foot, you can argue he’s unlucky but he takes it completely away from Ramsdale.
