<\/p>\nDisgraced former Spanish Football Fedaration president Luis Rubiales has revealed he was scared for his mother\u2019s life after she went on a hunger strike.<\/p>\n
Rubiales announced his resignation<\/u> from his position on Piers Morgan Uncensored. It came after Spanish footballer Jenni Hermoso filed a complaint with the high court<\/u> after he kissed her on the lips during their Women's World Cup <\/u>celebrations.<\/p>\n
The 46-year-old\u2019s mother, 72-year-old retiree Angeles Bejar, had launched a hunger strike in August by locking herself inside a church near Malaga in an attempt to clear Rubiales\u2019 name, who at the time was suspended by FIFA.<\/p>\n
Bejar told a Spanish TV station in a dramatic WhatsApp exchange that she was prepared to die<\/u> in order to clear her son's name, insisting: "I will stay here as long as my body holds out. I don\u2019t mind dying for justice because my son is a decent person and it\u2019s not fair what they\u2019re doing."<\/p>\n

But the former hairdresser\u2019s protest was cut short as she was rushed to hospital, with the parish priest of the church explaining: \u201cShe had not been feeling well because of the heat and everything else. <\/p>\n
"Her feet had become swollen and she was very tired. She had also become very nervous."<\/p>\n
Rubiales was asked about his mother\u2019s hunger strike by Piers Morgan, to which he answered: \u201cI was very scared for her. At a certain point her ankle\u2019s completely swelled up, she suffers from hypertension.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say how the backlash from his now-infamous kiss had a negative impact on his whole family, including his daughters.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very lucky. I\u2019ve got three beautiful, mature, yes, but sensitive daughters,\u201d he said. \u201cI think they are suffering more for me, for my parents, than for themselves. They have friends. Sometimes they call me to give me strength.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rubiales could potentially yet face a fine or a prison sentence of up to four years after Spanish state prosecutors filed a complaint against him for sexual assault and coercion over the kiss. The case was presented against the former Levante defender on Friday (September 8), with Rubiales asked to give preliminary testimony in court.<\/p>\n
But Rubiales remained confident when asked about the criminal charges, saying: \u201cI am a lawyer, I am a Spanish citizen, I have been through many processes, criminal as well.<\/p>\n
