{"id":289996,"date":"2023-09-04T22:36:02","date_gmt":"2023-09-04T22:36:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usasportsradar.com\/?p=289996"},"modified":"2023-09-04T22:36:02","modified_gmt":"2023-09-04T22:36:02","slug":"danny-cipriani-reveals-he-was-lucky-to-live-after-being-hit-by-a-bus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usasportsradar.com\/rugby-union\/danny-cipriani-reveals-he-was-lucky-to-live-after-being-hit-by-a-bus\/","title":{"rendered":"Danny Cipriani reveals he was lucky to live after being hit by a bus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Danny Cipriani reveals he was lucky not to DIE after being hit by a bus on team night out with Sale while dressed as a WWE star at the end of a 15-pub crawl\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Danny Cipriani has recounted how he nearly died while out on a pub crawl<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The 35-year-old was hit by a bus after running into the road on a night out<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Cipriani careered into the windscreen before being rushed to hospital\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Danny Cipriani has revealed how he nearly died after being hit by a bus and believes his late actions saved him from being involved in a fatal accident on a night out.<\/p>\n<p>The former England rugby international was on a night out with a group of Sale Sharks team-mates a decade ago when a moment of drunken madness saw him sprint across the road and into the path of an oncoming bus.<\/p>\n<p>Cipriani at the time was taking part in a pub crawl known as the Otley Run with his colleagues and in his attempts to run away from one of the group stepped out in front of a bus.<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old, who is still without a club, explained how he has struggled with alcohol and drugs in the past and believes he was lucky to escape with his life after the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Writing in his memoir, Who Am I?, that is being serialised by the Sun, Cipriani described the harrowing encounter: &#8216;What\u2019s the worst that could happen? We\u2019ve almost made it to the last pub of the crawl and I\u2019m slightly over-excited. I sneak up behind one of the boys, whack him on the back of the head and he starts chasing me.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/04\/22\/75055553-12480089-image-m-60_1693861942303.jpg\" height=\"663\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Danny Cipriani has insisted he was lucky to survive being hit by a bus in 2013<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/04\/22\/75055571-12480089-image-a-58_1693861933080.jpg\" height=\"433\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Cipriani was out on a night out with his Sale Sharks team-mates when the collision occured<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I\u2019m running along, checking over my shoulder, and when I reach a bus stop, I look to my right, see a bus coming, assume it\u2019s stopping and make a dash for it. BOOM!<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;If I hadn\u2019t instinctively jumped at the last second and smashed into the bus window, instead of the grille, I\u2019d have been wiped out. Legs crushed, maybe killed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;As it is, I\u2019m flat on my back on a stretcher, surrounded by paramedics. As well as being concussed, I\u2019ve torn the medial collateral ligament in my knee,&#8217; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Not too bad, the season\u2019s over anyway. When I get out of hospital, I can\u2019t resist tweeting, \u201cHeavy night. Feel like I\u2019ve been hit by a bus . . . \u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;People have a laugh at that, which is what I wanted. But no one asks me how I really am&#8217; stated Cipriani.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/04\/22\/75055675-12480089-image-m-61_1693861996318.jpg\" height=\"445\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Cipriani (right) was previously picked by England but struggled to nail down a spot in the team<\/p>\n<p>The front windscreen of the bus was shattered as it bore the brunt force of the impact with Cipriani and buckled inwards as contact was made.<\/p>\n<p>Paramedics rushed to the scene and he was taken away in an ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary before being discharged on crutches.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the fly-half survived and went on to make a full recovery that allowed him to continue his career in the sport.<\/p>\n<p>However, Cipriani explained how he still takes a prescription painkiller called\u00a0Tramadol after the collision, but openly admits he wants to eventually stop taking what the medication.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/i\/pix\/2017\/08\/02\/636x90_facebook_ad_sport.png\" width=\"636\" height=\"90\"><br \/>\nSource: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sport\/rugbyunion\/article-12480089\/Danny-Ciprianibus-sale-sharks.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Full Article<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Danny Cipriani reveals he was lucky not to DIE after being hit by a bus on team night out with [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":289995,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.8 -
