UFC Vegas 8 Fight Night Smith vs Rakic: Ion Cutelaba coronavirus positive test

The UFC Vegas 8 Fight Night has been rocked by another coronavirus positive test.

Ion Cutelaba’s cursed light heavyweight re-match with Magomed Ankalaev was cancelled for the third time.

The UFC released a statement just hours before the start of the undercard to announce the fight had been cancelled because of a positive test to COVID-19.

Cutelaba tested positive earlier this month forcing the second cancellation of their re-match.

The UFC has not yet announced which of the fighters or members of their camps have tested positive.

The two fighters squared off at the official weigh-ins on Saturday (AEST).

Their re-match was first scheduled for April before global coronavirus restrictions saw an entire series of cards scrapped.

They first crossed paths in February when Ankalaev won a controversial fight with an early first round stoppage victory.

Commentators suggested the referees stopped the contest too early, leaving Cutelaba and his corner furious. Cutelaba officially protested the result in a bid to have the official result declared a no-contest, but the UFC upheld the original verdict.

Cutelaba is still waiting for his shot at revenge.

The thrilling undercard was highlighted by a near stoppage win for Zak Cummings, who appeared to pull off a dramatic walk-off TKO, but was beaten by the bell.

Cummings landed a whipping leg kick to the head of Alessio Di Chirico with just one second left in the third round.

A stunned Di Chirico collapsed to the ground and then fell over again on wobbly legs after the final bell.

However, the referee ruled that Di Chirico survived to the end.
