Rogan: Stripped star is real UFC king
UFC commentator Joe Rogan says Conor McGregor won’t get a re-match against lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The veteran voice of mixed martial arts said UFC boss Dana White is planning to have the Russian champion defend his title against stripped, interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson.
The mercurial American fighter has three times been booked to fight Nurmagomedov — the Dagestani was forced to pull out twice, while Ferguson was forced to surrender his title when he injured his knee ahead of their third scheduled fight.
It proved to be immensely costly for the Californian fighter.
Ferguson is undefeated in the UFC since 2012, scorching his way through the division on an 11-fight winning streak, including his interim title third round submission victory over Kevin Lee.

Ferguson returned from his knee injury with a thrilling stoppage of Anthony Pettis on the McGregor-Nurmagomedov undercard.
Rogan says the “smart money” is now on Ferguson to fight Nurmagomedov
“I don’t think there’s real talk of McGregor getting a rematch,” he said on his podcast.
“I think the smart money is on Tony Ferguson fighting Khabib next.
“That’s the smart money, Dana has been saying that.
“I 100 per cent believe that Tony Ferguson should never have been stripped.
“The guy fell when he was doing press and tore his knee apart.
“Six months later comes back and destroys Anthony Pettis in a spectacular performance.”
Rogan said Ferguson’s versatility as a fighter and his strength across all mixed martial arts disciplines makes him the “most dangerous” opponent for Nurmagomedov.
“I think he is the toughest test for Khabib, because of his cardio, and his versatility,” he said.
“He can fight off his back, he submitted Kevin Lee off his back to win the title.
“His ability to hold guys in his guard and recover if he gets clipped, he’s the most dangerous fight for Khabib at lightweight.”

Meanwhile, Rogan has laughed of the awkwardness of claims Ferguson is not happy about being branded a “brilliant weirdo” by Rogan.
Rogan told the podcast he has been told Ferguson is displeased about Rogan describing his unique training and fighting styles as strange.
Rogan said he is a huge fan of the 34-year-old and was simply trying to be “100 per cent complimentary” when he branded the fighter a “brilliant weirdo” ahead of his win over Pettis earlier this month.
