UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov has been criticised for his comments about ring girls.
The Russian fighter, who retired from UFC with a perfect 29-0 record, suggested ring girls were ‘unnecessary’ when speaking at a promotional event recently.
“Please don’t think I have anything against women,” Khabib said. “Women are created equal with men…but for me, [ring girls] are absolutely unnecessary for MMA.”
His comments appeared to anger Octagon girls – the UFC’s equivalent to boxing ring girls – as well as compatriot Angelina Semenova.
Semenova has participated in MMA but she has two wins from three bouts in professional boxing.
“I believe that Khabib has an old-fashion mindset and vision regarding fighting and life in general,” the 27-year-old told Metaratinas. “The 21st century has already arrived. Women have the same rights as men.
“MMA is a social, sports show, where ring girls are, of course, traditional, like the cherry on the cake.”
Khabib hails from Dagestan, and Semenova added his background may have forged his alleged antiquated mentality.
“It’s time for Khabib to leave the sexism he was accustomed to in the Dagestani mountains, if he’s going to live in a society where everything’s been different for a long time,” she continued.

“Or let him dictate his rules exactly where he’s from. Although development will sooner or later find that corner.”
Arianny Celeste, a popular UFC Octagon girl, appeared to respond to Khabib’s comments – although she didn’t directly name him.
The 35-year-old reiterated that while times may be changing, she loves her job and will not change.
“I’ve work over 15 years in this industry and learned it’s easier just to simply NOT CARE,” the model wrote on Instagram.
