Israel Adesanya brutally mocks Jon Jones over controversial UFC win
Israel Adesanya took great pleasure in watching the controversy unfold after Jon Jones was awarded a controversial win over Dominick Reyes in Texas at UFC 247.
Jones was given a unanimous decision by the judges, with Joe Soliz’s 49-46 scorecard attracting scorn from fight fans, pundits and Dana White.
Reyes dominated the opening rounds before defending champion Jones rallied in the final two, but that didn’t stop boos from ringing out around the Toyota Center when the scorecards were read out.
Adesanya, the UFC’s middleweight champion, has been campaigning for a super-fight with Jones, but has been repeatedly told by ‘Bones’ he was nowhere near his level.
The New Zealander took to social media after UFC 247 ended to take in all the ensuing drama.
After tweeting ‘LOL’, Adesanya posted a popcorn gif in a brutal dig at Jones and his victory.
While Reyes was visibly gutted by the scorecards, Jones praised his opponent after their five-round battle.
‘Dominick did a tremendous and you have totally earned my respect,’ he said in the octagon.
‘It was a really close fight but I turned it around in the fifth round.
‘That fifth round won me the fight, those take downs won me the fight and I totally believe in my heart I won the fight.’
While White slammed the judging after the scorecards were read out, commentator Joe Rogan was fuming with the decision.
Rogan called out one of the judges earlier in the night for not even watching an undercard showdown between Lauren Murphy and Andrea Lee.
Murphy would be given a split decision on the scorecards with two judges seeing it 29-28 for each fighter, with one 30-27 scorecard for Murphy.
