Conor McGregor has ditched his bad-boy image over the past year and made a number of commendable donations to charities, businesses and people in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The UFC superstar is set to return to action against Dustin Poirier on January 23, having last competed in the Octagon all the way back in January 2020.
McGregor is the sport’s biggest cash cow by some distance, but he has landed himself in hot water on several occasions since bursting onto the scene.
He was arrested twice in 2019, first on charges of strong-armed robbery and criminal mischief after allegedly taking a man’s phone and smashing it on the ground, before later pleading guilty to assaulting a man inside a Dublin pub.
However, over the past 12 months the Irishman has completed some admirable acts of charity to clean up his reputation.
In April of last year, McGregor was behind the development of eight housing units for homeless families in Dublin to move into.
And one month later he was on hand to personally deliver PPE to hospitals in Dublin, having purchased £1million worth of equipment for medics fighting coronavirus across Ireland.

His charitable deeds in 2020 did not end there, as last month it was revealed he also stepped in to save a Martial Arts gym in Ireland from closing.

But owner Philip Mulpeter, a longtime friend and former training partner of McGregor’s, soon received a call from the two-weight UFC champion, who offered to provide a cash injection to keep it from closing.
“I was like nearly crying [when McGregor called]," Mulpeter told ESPN.

“I didn't know what to say to him, to be honest. I'm forever grateful to him.
“He basically saved our little community. Words can't express what he's done for us. I know that he gets bad press.
"People don't report on it, but he does this stuff all the time.

McGregor has kept the ball rolling in 2021, donating £4,500 to help buy new medical equipment for a seriously ill woman.

He provided the donation to give 43-year-old Catherine O’Leary, who suffers from locked-in syndrome, enough funds to purchase a new vital signs monitor to assist with her care.
And the 32-year-old has also launched a limited edition clothing range to raise money for the Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin.
