When Amad Diallo can make Man Utd debut after completing transfer move

Amad Diallo demonstrates skills in training before Man Utd move

Manchester United’s new signing Amad Diallo is free to make his first-team debut for the club as soon as possible after arriving in England, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is yet to decide whether he will join up with the senior squad straight away.

Diallo has completed his move to United after flying into Manchester earlier this week.

The teenager, who could end up costing United £39million once all the add-ons and clauses are taken care of, initially signed on transfer deadline day in the summer.

He’s spent the last few months with Atalanta, but only made two appearances for the first team – one each in the Champions League and Serie A.

The 19-year-old was bought after a failed attempt at signing Jadon Sancho in the summer, and is likely to come in as a long-term option on the right wing.

But Solskjaer has now confirmed Diallo might not be thrown in at the deep end straight away.

He is eligible to play as soon as possible, and could even play against Liverpool next weekend in a must-win Premier League clash.

Diallo was a part of Atalanta’s Covid-19 protected bubble, and therefore won’t have to self-isolate or be a part of a quarantined unit before joining training.

United star Edinson Cavani was forced to self-isolate after he joined the club on a free transfer in the summer, but that was because he hadn’t been part of a bubble prior to his arrival in Manchester.

Solskjaer hinted Diallo could follow in the footsteps of Facundo Pellistri by playing for the under-23 side before joining the senior set-up.

Speaking at his press conference, he explained that the teenager won’t be rushed into playing first-team football, and will only make the step up when everyone feels he is ready.

“He’s still not been with us in the training group,” Solskjaer stressed.

“It’s the last bit of paperwork so he can come in.

“I’m excited by all new players coming in.

“We’ll give him time. I’ve seen there’s been lots of expectations on Amad and rightly so.

“He’s an exciting player with some fantastic attributes we look forward to developing and giving him the chance to succeed here at Man United.

“It’s important we give him that time to settle in, if it’s going to be in the 23s to play his first few games of if he looks so ready after he’s been training with the first-team and he’ll go straight into that group, I don’t know yet.”
