Villa to bid for England star, Cantwell and Bailey latest plus Grealish boost
Aston Villa are stepping up their transfer activity with Manchester City seemingly closing in the £100m capture of Jack Grealish.
With Grealish looking increasingly likely to head to the Etihad, attention is turning to how Dean Smith's side will spend the Premier League record-breaking cash injection.
On Saturday, Villa announced they agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Leon Bailey, subject to the winger passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
The Villans had already signed attacking midfielder Emi Buendia from Norwich for £35m, while Ashley Young rejoined the club – and more signings are set to come.
Here, Daily Star Sport rounds up the latest transfer news from Villa Park…
Second bid for England man
Villa are to make a second bid for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse after their initial 25m offer was rejected.
The opening offer for the England international was 'not even considered' and was seen as 'derisory', according to The Athletic.
The Saints are not keen to sell Ward-Prowse, who scored nine goals and posted seven assists last season, and signed a new five-year deal just a year ago.
But the Mail reports that Villa will test their resolve to keep the 26-year-old – and Southampton will know they can demand a high price with Villa set for a Grealish windfall.
Villa to step up Cantwell bid
Villa are to push ahead with a move for Norwich star Todd Cantwell if Grealish agrees a move to City.
Grealish is expected to make a final decision on his future this week after returning from holiday.
And his exit could pave the way for long-term target Cantwell to head to Villa Park.
The 23-year-old scored six goals and chipped in with the same number of assists as Norwich won the Championship title last term, and would be expected to cost around £20m.
But as with Ward-Prowse, Villa's new spending power is expected to be tested, with The Sun on Sunday claiming the Canaries could demand a whopping £40m for the midfielder.
Grealish boost as Agbonlahor eyes top six
Gabby Agbonlahor is predicting a top-six finish next season with Villa's funds boosted by the expected sale of Grealish.
Smith's side finished 11th last term after flying high early in the campaign.
But Agbonlahor reckons the players his former club can sign this summer will turn them into a Premier League force.
Responding to news that Villa had agreed a fee to sign Jamaica star Bailey, the former striker posted on Instagram: “Sign who we want when we want
“Massive club! Top six incoming!!! Stay woke!”
