Van de Beek and Sancho embrace in brilliant moment captured after Man Utd win

Donny van de Beek shared an incredible moment with Jadon Sancho after Manchester United's win over Villarreal on Tuesday night.

United won 2-0 in Spain to guarantee their spot in the Champions League last-16 with a game to spare.

The victory was in no small part down to the performances of Van de Beek and Sancho, both of whom impressed having previously struggled under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Caretaker manager Michael Carrick made the surprise decision to start the pair from the off against Villarreal, much to the delight of United's fans.

It was a move that paid off in spades as Sancho scored his first goal for the Red Devils, blasting home an effort that went in off the underside of the bar.

A few seconds later, after the referee had blown for full-time, Sancho ran over to the bench where Van de Beek was waiting for his younger team-mate.

The delighted Dutchman grabbed the England international by the head, gave him a hug and screamed as Carrick watched on in the background.

It was a lovely moment between two quality players who will be hoping to kick on under their caretaker boss after failing to impress for Solskjaer.

Speaking after the match, Carrick revealed his delight at Sancho's contribution in what was only the forward's third completed 90 minutes for United since his move from Borussia Dortmund.

"I was so pleased for Jadon," he told club media. "I thought he worked his socks off tonight, I thought he gave everything tonight.

"At times, it wasn't always with the ball and I know how much he enjoys the ball at his feet and trying to make things happen.

"He showed a different side tonight and, to get his goal at the end, pretty much capped it off perfectly for him and for us."

Speaking to BT Sport, the caretaker boss added: "To finish it off with Jadon was brilliant. Defensively, he put in a real effort and worked hard for us when we needed him to. It was a big night for him."
