Tuchel explains how Chelsea squad welcomed him after Lampard’s dismissal

Thomas Tuchel has given some insight into how the Chelsea squad welcomed him to the club after being parachuted in after Frank Lampard's dismissal.

The Blues legend was axed in January after a poor stretch of form and a whirlwind 48 hour period saw the German in the hotseat.

With Chelsea sitting ninth in the table, it was envisaged that Tuchel would steady the ship until next season.

But even Roman Abramovich must be impressed by the remarkable start to life the 47-year-old has had on Kings Road.

It has been 10 games in charge for Tuchel so far – seven wins, three draws.

Among those victories include 1-0 results over teams led by Jose Mourinho, Diego Simeone and now Jurgen Klopp – all away from home.

By the end of Lampard's reign, there were reports streaming out over turmoil and discontent.

But Tuchel has admitted that he was welcomed into part of the squad straight away by the players, who have taken to his tactics well.

Speaking after the win over Liverpool on Thursday, the former Paris Saint-Germain boss was asked how the squad had adapted so quickly to his system.

He replied: "I do not know but I feel a big part of this club, actually, from the first moments.

"We put in a lot of effort and try to help. When the team shows their quality, it is a players' game."

The victory over Liverpool showed their weaknesses brutally with Chelsea happy to soak up pressure before hitting them on the counter-attack.

It worked to devastating effect when N'Golo Kante released Mason Mount, who stepped in-field to bamboozle both Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold before expertly finishing past Alisson.

And this was no accident with Tuchel explaining how this was the game-plan all along.

He said: "We needed to show courage if we wanted to escape the pressure and we did this excellently.

"We were strong in our transition game, we were strong in defending and winning second balls and counter-pressing. It was a very, very good team performance."
