Tottenham team news: Expected 4-2-3-1 vs Marine as Jose Mourinho goes strong for FA Cup

Marine v Tottenham: FA Cup third-round preview

Tottenham are looking to prevent one of the FA Cup’s greatest upsets when they take on Marine this evening. Despite coming up against a team in the eighth-tier of English football, Mourinho has stated he will be taking a near full-strength squad for the clash on Merseyside. Express Sport has picked the Spurs XI we expect to see line up at Rossett Park.

Goalkeeper – Hart

Joe Hart is in line for his first domestic appearance in goal since his free transfer to Tottenham.

The former England No 1 has had to settle for Europa League action so far in his Spurs career.

Mourinho stuck with Hugo Lloris for the two Carabao Cup ties against Stoke and Brentford recently.

However, this looks to be a perfect opportunity to give the France World Cup winner a breather.

Defence – Doherty, Rodon, Sanchez, Davies

Summer signing Joe Rodon hasn’t featured for Spurs since the north London derby win over Arsenal on December 6.

But he could come into the side for this match as Mourinho rotates his defensive options.

He could partner Davinson Sanchez, though Japhet Tanganga is also pushing for a start.

Matt Doherty is back from suspension, and he and Ben Davies are likely to be the two full-backs.

Midfield – Sissoko, Winks; Alli

Harry Winks should start after only coming on as a substitute in the midweek win over Brentford.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg received a nasty cut on his leg in that match so could be rested, with Moussa Sissoko keeping his place.

That is unless Mourinho fancies playing Gedson Fernandes, with the loanee having only made one appearance this season which came in the Carabao Cup win over Chelsea.

Dele Alli will wonder what he has to do if he doesn’t start this match.

Attack – Lucas, Vinicius, Bergwijn

Lucas Moura has scored just one domestic goal all season, whereas Steven Bergwijn is yet to find the net this term.

So this match could be perfect to give the pair some much-needed confidence in front of goal.

Carlos Vinicius may also be handed a rare opportunity from the start through the middle.

However, Mourinho will undoubtedly have Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to call upon if needed.

Expected Tottenham XI vs Marine in full: Hart; Doherty, Rodon, Sanchez, Davies; Sissoko, Winks; Lucas, Alli, Bergwijn; Vinicius.
