Sterling doing research on Chelsea and Tuchel with ‘one stumbling block’ left

Chelsea are growing in confidence that they can sign Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling and that there is just ‘one stumbling block’ left.

The Athletic report that the attacker is talking to people about what life is like in west London and how Thomas Tuchel operates as a manager, while one source at the club believes the only thing that stands in the way is size of the fee. The 27-year-old has just a single year left on his contract and therefore is available at a cut-price fee during this window.

Sterling has been at Man City for the past seven years since making the move from Liverpool and has developed into a key player for the Citizens, netting 131 goals in 339 appearances for the current Premier League champions.

As well as this, Sterling has four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and three League Cups to his name. Man City have made the additions of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez this summer, and with the presence of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez on top of that, it means that Sterling’s place could be severely under threat.

It is thought that the England international could fill the shoes of Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea, who is reported to make a return to Inter Milan.

Talks between the two clubs are underway and it seems that it is a loan deal that’s on the table. It could come just a year after the striker made the £97.5 million move from the club last summer. The Athletic go on to report that Inter are ready to cover Lukaku’s entire salary they agreed with Lukaku but have already seen a proposed fee of about €5 million rejected by Chelsea.

Lukaku’s season at Stamford Bridge was hampered by poor form and injury while an explosive interview with Sky Italia did not help the matter when it came out in January.
