Son, 28, is contracted to Spurs until the summer of 2023 after signing a big money extension in 2018.

The report claims that Madrid will soon meet with Spurs’ representatives to informally discuss the idea of a summer transfer.

Madrid are however cautious when it comes to spending big on wingers from the Premier League, following the struggles of Eden Hazard in the Spanish capital since his costly switch from Chelsea.

Tottenham have already taken the first steps to offering the mercurial South Korean bumper new terms, and manager Mourinho is confident Son will put pen to paper to improve his current £150,000-a-week deal.

‘I would love that,’ said Mourinho when asked in October.

‘Son has three years of contract so it’s not like we’re in an extreme situation of everybody being worried.

‘It’s more that Son loves it here, I believe that he would like to commit his future to the club for a long time.

‘Everybody at the club is totally in love with this player and this boy and is trying also to make him feel part of the furniture.

‘It’s normal the club tries to go from three years to four or five or six, I don’t know.

‘He deserves one, and the club knows that sooner or later without any pressure they will arrive into a decision.’
