Slavia Prague have apologised for the bizarre video that described Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as ‘overweight’.

The Foxes face the Czech club in Prague on Thursday in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie, with Slavia unexpectedly upping the ante with remarks about the Leicester captain on their YouTube channel.

In the video, reporter Jiri Hozek says Schmeichel has had ‘problems with his healthy lifestyle’ and that ‘a tough manager that favours athleticism’ would demand the Dane ‘lose five or ten kilos’.

Hozek also made the equally strange claim that Schmeichel wears ‘a corset’.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly praised Schmeichel’s professionalism and high standards since taking charge in February 2019.

The video provoked anger among Leicester fans on social media, prompting Slavia’s English language account to try to defuse the situation.

In response to one user, the post read ‘Really sorry if this was the only impression from this episode.

If you watch it you will get to the part where Kasper Schmeichel is praised for his performance and described as one of the key players for the team. We have great respect for the club.’

Schmeichel has been one of Leicester’s outstanding players this season and was also a key part of their Premier League title-winning side five years ago.

The 34-year-old clocked up 400 appearances for Leicester last month and will complete 10 years at the club this summer.
