Real Madrid 'set their sights on 2022 swoop for Erling Haaland'

Real Madrid ‘set their sights on 2022 swoop for Erling Haaland’… and have already reached a ‘pact’ with Borussia Dortmund to secure deal for star man

  • Erling Haaland is one of the most in-demand young strikers in world football
  • Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on signing him in summer of 2022
  • Bernabeu chiefs want to sign a new No 9 to replace an ageing Karim Benzema
  • Club are said to have reached a ‘pact’ with Dortmund to do the deal in 18 months

Real Madrid have set their sights on a 2022 swoop for goal machine Erling Haaland – and have reportedly reached a ‘pact’ with Borussia Dortmund to facilitate a transfer in 18 months’ time.

With Karim Benzema entering the twilight years of his career, Real are said to be ‘convinced’ that they need to sign a new No 9, with Haaland top of their wishlist.

And AS are reporting that 2022 is the year they want to bring the Norwegian to the Bernabeu, with the club already laying the groundwork for a deal.

It has been claimed that Real Madrid chiefs have agreed a ‘pact’ with Borussia Dortmund – via Haaland’s agent – to finalise a deal in a year and a half.

Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke stated this week that there was no release clause for next year but it is believed that Haaland could be available for around £65m in 2022.

Martin Odegaard, friend of Haaland and fellow Norway international, will be recruited to help seal the move and convince the Dortmund star that his future lies in the Spanish capital.

AS write that Madrid become more convinced of Haaland’s talent ‘with every day that passes’, and the club believe he is Robert Lewandowski’s successor in terms of goals on the European stage.

The club are in a strong position to seal the deal, but are wary of the threat of Manchester United, who also hold a strong interest in signing the 20-year-old.

In the 18 months before signing Haaland, Real Madrid are said to be keen on another two deals for talented young players, as they look to bring a youth revolution to the Bernabeu.

The year 2021 could see both Kylian Mbappe and Eduardo Camavinga arrive at the club, as Zinedine Zidane looks to splash the cash and bring in a series of generational talents to help Real win the Champions League again.

Already this season, Haaland has fired in 16 goals in 15 games for club and country, only failing to score in three Borussia Dortmund matches.

This week he netted a brace against Club Brugge in the Champions League, and is on a four-game scoring streak heading into the weekend.

Mbappe and Camavinga, meanwhile, have been flying in France for PSG and Rennes respectively and have a whole host of suitors vying for their signatures.
