Police end their investigation into break-in at Raheem Sterling's home
Police END their investigation into the mid-World Cup break-in at Raheem Sterling’s £6m home after no arrests – and having denied England star’s spokesperson’s claims that his family were at home during an armed raid
- Police have ended their investigation into the break-in at Sterling’s house
- Thieves broke into his £6million gated home in Surrey during the World Cup
- However, police inquiries have come to a halt and Sterling has been informed
Police have concluded their investigation into allegations of a break-in that sent Raheem Sterling home from the World Cup, without making any arrests.
The England winger – who has been left out of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the forthcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers – abruptly left Qatar mid-tournament, with a spokesperson for the player saying his fiancée and children had been at the family’s Surrey mansion when it was raided by armed intruders.
But following concern from residents, Surrey Police later moved to clarify the situation. The force said that family of the Chelsea player were not present and had discovered watches and jewellery were missing after they had returned from Qatar, where they had been watching Sterling.
They added that they had received no reports of armed intruders and that no injuries were sustained, saying that they were trying to establish when the reported theft had taken place.
Now, their inquiries have come to a halt and the case will be left on file. They say Sterling, 28, has been informed of the situation.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: ‘All current lines of enquiry have been pursued and the matter will now sit on file pending any new information coming to light. The victim has been made aware of this.’
After missing the Three Lions’ victory over Senegal, Sterling returned to Doha and came off the bench for the last 11 minutes of England’s quarter-final defeat to France. However, he has not played for Gareth Southgate since and yesterday was left out of the squad for the forthcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.
When asked about his omission, Southgate said: ‘I spoke with him (Sterling) a week or so ago. A general catch-up. He is not happy with his condition physically, carrying a hamstring problem.
‘He wasn’t really in consideration. He doesn’t think he is operating at the level he needs.’
In Sterling’s absence Eberechi Eze was named in a 26-man squad. The Crystal Palace forward, 24, could be set to make his England debut two years after a serious Achilles injury ruined previous hopes.
