Pogba has made Greenwood feelings clear ahead of potential reunion

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reviews the Aston Villa game

Mason Greenwood is rumoured to be of interest to Juventus this summer as Manchester United continue to ponder the youngster’s future at Old Trafford. Greenwood had all alleged rape and assault charges against him dropped in February, but whether he will put the United shirt on again remains to be seen.

As United continue to conduct their own investigation into Greenwood, several Serie A sides have reportedly sounded out the 21-year-old’s representatives.

Juventus are said to want to sign Greenwood on a long-term loan deal as he has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford, while the Old Lady hope that having the one-cap England man’s former team-mate Paul Pogba will give them an advantage over their rivals.

AC Milan and Roma are also reportedly interested in a temporary deal for Greenwood, while there has also been rumours linking him to both Chinese and Turkish clubs as United question whether to reintegrate him into Erik ten Hag’s squad – or move him elsewhere despite concerns that the Red Devils are unlikely to recoup a significant fee for the forward and if Greenwood does leave permanently he may have to lower his £75,000-a-week salary.

While Pogba has not had the most successful second spell at Juventus due to injury, having left United on a free transfer in the summer, Greenwood clearly made quite the impression on the midfielder as Pogba once claimed that his former team-mate was “the best finisher” he had ever seen.

“Mason I think he’s more left-footed, he dribbles more with his left but to shoot he shoots with both,” Pogba told Stadium Astro in 2021. “His finishing is unreal, he’s the best finisher I’ve seen, trained with. He’s the youngest but he’s just unbelievable and I hope he score more goals and improve and win titles. He’s very young and very talented and I want to push him even better.”

Pogba had also outlined how far he thought Greenwood can go in the game. In a previous interview with Sky Sports, he said: “Mason is a big-talented player that we had from our academy.

“He can go to the highest level, world-class, it just depends on him. He has to work hard, harder than everyone, believe in himself and want it.

“When you’re talented like this, you already have talent, now it’s only the work you put in to make you become the world-class player you have to become with this talent. It depends on him. I will always be the guy to push him, not praise him too much, but push him to get to the level he should arrive at.”
