Manchester United needed extra time to book their place in the last four of the Europa League but ultimately ran out winners against a spirited FC Copenhagen side.
Bruno Fernandes' penalty – the 21st of United's season – was enough to seal their progression after a gruelling 120 minutes of action in the Cologne heat.
Mason Greenwood thought he had put the Red Devils ahead in the first half, only for his brilliant strike to be ruled out for offside.
The teenager struck the post after the break with Marcus Rashford's follow-up also flagged offside.
But Anthony Martial won a penalty in the additional period which Fernandes dispatched with aplomb from 12 yards.
