Pep Guardiola didn’t enter Man City dressing room after Champions League defeat

Pep Guardiola didn't even go into Manchester City's dressing room after their shock Champions League exit to Lyon.

One of his players has lifted the lid on the big tactical gamble that went horribly wrong and has led to fierce criticism of City's boss.

Defender Oleksandr Zinchenko and his glamorous sports reporter wife have lit the blue touchpaper on a row which seems certain to signal the end of the Ukrainian international's days at The Etihad.

Guardiola has been accused of trying to overthink things and being too clever by naming three at the back against unfancied Lyon.

His Champions League favourites crashed out in the quarter-finals leading to a barrage of criticism from fans and observers alike.

Now Zinchenko has opened a can of worms by revealing Guardiola didn't even venture into the dressing room afterwards.

Asked what the manager had said, Zinchenko told wife Vlada Sedan's Youtube vlog: “Guardiola didn't even enter the locker room, and didn't say a word after the match. What can you say if everything is clear anyway?”

Guardiola lined his side up with three centre backs plus midfielder Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan.

Zinchenko, an unused sub, added: “In the first half, Lyon played very organised at the back. They were almost all behind the ball line.

“And we have three central defenders in static position with the ball – they start all attacks, and two central midfielders go down to them to take the ball, because there are no zones to find a pass line. We have five people just off the game.”

Wife Sedan ramped it up even more, putting the blame firmly on Guardiola's shoulders.

She said: “This is Guardiola's puncture. At such a crucial moment, making such an experimental tactic for City is a bummer.

"Perhaps I have no right to say this, perhaps Zinchenko will forbid me. But to put it mildly, and in order not to swear, this is completely Guardiola's fault.”

Zinchenko is currently out of favour at City, with this withering blast unlikely to change that. He's only made one start since making the mistake that led to defeat at Southampton.

It seems certain he will be hauled in by a furious Guardiola and asked to explain his remarks.
