Paul Pogba considering Man Utd contract U-turn after Cristiano Ronaldo’s debut

Cristiano Ronaldo's stunning Manchester United debut has tempted Paul Pogba to put pen to paper on a new contract, according to reports.

Ronaldo, 36, marked his Old Trafford homecoming with two goals on Saturday, helping United pick up a 4-1 win over Newcastle in the Premier League.

The returning hero has got his second Red Devils stint off to a spectacular start, with many now tipping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men to go on and mount a Premier League title challenge this season.

And according to The Athletic, Saturday's victory over the Magpies had a 'significant bearing' on Pogba's contractual situation.

The France midfielder, who has registered seven assists in United's first four games of the season, is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

With little progress being made over an extension, a potential exit was mooted over the summer amid reported interest from Paris St-Germain and former club Juventus.

As things stand he will be able to begin negotiating a free move abroad at the turn of the year, meaning United have reportedly started making contingency plans should that become a realistic possibility.

However, Ronaldo's return and two-goal debut along with the arrival of Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho is said to have swayed Pogba's thinking.

It is now believed the £89million ace will extend his stay with United amid their wave of momentum right now.

Talks between Pogba and club officials are expected to resume in the near future, with his contract situation likely to be resolved before he is free to speak to foreign suitors at the turn of the year.

  • Ronaldo was allowed to break Man Utd new signing tradition – unlike Varane and Sancho

Nevertheless, how the team fares between now and then and the success of their new signings will have a big impact on those extension discussions.

Pogba has made 203 appearances since making his own return to United in 2016, scoring 38 goals and winning the League Cup and Europa League.
