Nigeria team news: Predicted 4-2-3-1 line up vs Tunisia – Leicester star to make way

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr could be tempted to rotate his squad as Nigeria draw their Africa Cup of Nations campaign to a close against Tunisia.

The Super Eagles have the nuisance of a third-place play-off to negotiate before flying home, having lost to Algeria in an agonising semi-final on Sunday.

Odion Ighalo had scored from the penalty spot to equalise William Troost-Ekong’s earlier own-goal but Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez whipped in a 95th-minute free-kick to send the Desert Foxes through.

So now Nigeria are up against Tunisia and Rohr may look to give some of his fringe players a run-out in order to give his inexperienced squad a taste of tournament football.

Francis Uzoho is expected to replace Daniel Akpeyi between the posts while Kenneth Omeruo and Jamilu Collins could both make way after finding the going tough against Algeria.

Brighton centre-back Leon Balogun could come in alongside Troost-Ekong and Ola Aina may be reinstated at left-back, having played much of the competition as first-choice.

Chidozie Awaziem should get the nod at right-back while Stoke midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has been an ever-present in the engine room.

Rohr has plenty of options alongside the Potters man with Leicester ace Wilfred Ndidi the most likely pick, although John Obi Mikel may return in his place.

Samuel Kalu will also hope to feature although it remains to be seen who the Bordeaux youngster replaces with Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze favourites of the manager.

Alex Iwobi should continue in the No 10 role but more will be needed creatively from the Arsenal forward if Nigeria are going to trouble a notoriously tight defence.

Ighalo is in the hunt for the Golden Boot after four strikes so far, level with Mahrez, Adam Ounas and Sadio Mane, and should start.

However, Rohr may spring a surprise with the selection of Henry Onyekuru in attack as the Everton youngster continues his return from a serious knee injury while Victor Osimmhen is also yet to feature in Egypt.
