Neymar to sign new PSG contract tying Brazil superstar down until 2026

Neymar looks set to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain that will tie him down until 2026.

It comes after months of speculation over his future with a move back to Barcelona mooted at one point.

One of the first pieces of order upon Mauricio Pochettino's arrival was to convince the club's most prized assets to extend their terms.

Neymar's deal expires in the summer of 2022 and PSG were starting to uncomfortable.

If an agreement was not made by the end of the season, the French giants would have to contemplate selling the Brazilian or risk losing him for nothing.

But according to Qat, PSG and Neymar have reached terms and the 29-year-old will stay until 2026.

That will make him 34 by the time the contract expires, basically meaning that the forward has agreed to see out his best years with the club.

It is a huge boost for PSG and Pochettino, who see the Brazil international as one of two of their most valuable commodities.

There remain question marks over the other half, though, with Kylian Mbappe's contract also expiring in 2022.

Real Madrid are the hot favourites to snap up the Frenchman, who scored a hat-trick against Barcelona on Tuesday night in the Champions League.

"We are discussing with the club to find a project," he told Telefoot last month.

"I said I am also reflecting because if I sign it is to invest in the long term at Paris Saint-Germain. I am very happy here. I have always been very happy.

"The supporters [and] the club have always helped me and for that, I will always be grateful towards the club.

"I want to reflect on what I want to do in the coming years, where I want to be. That is how my reflection is turning. I will shortly need to make a choice. I am thinking very hard."

Meanwhile, Pochettino has already stated that he is confident the duo will extend their terms with PSG.

"I believe that Neymar and Mbappe will stay, I have a feeling, and will stay a long time at PSG,” the ex-Tottenham boss told RMC in a recent interview.

“And I have no doubts, I am very optimistic. The club is working hard to keep them with us. Ney and Kylian are happy. They are having fun here."
