Newcastle free to loan Saudi Pro League players as Prem clubs vote against ban

Newcastle United will be able to loan players from the Saudi Pro League in January after Premier League clubs voted against implementing a ban.
Premier League clubs hosted a shareholders meeting to vote on bringing a new rule that would stop clubs from loaning players from teams with the same owners. However, it failed to attract the 14 votes it needed to pass the resolution.
It's good news for Newcastle, who will be able to continue their pursuit of Al-Hilal – who are also owned by the PIF Fund – midfielder Ruben Neves. The Portuguese star swapped Wolves for Saudi Arabia in the summer, but he could be set for a return to England on loan.

The vote took place at The Churchill Hotel in Portman Square, London, on Tuesday, and it needed two-thirds of clubs' support to pass – however, the vote only had 13 sides in favour.
The ruling wasn't specially aimed at Newcastle, with the PIF group owning numerous sides in Saudi Arabia. Manchester City, Chelsea, and the Magpies are but three of several Premier League clubs that operated as part of a multi-club model.

Newcastle have been heavily linked with Neves after Sandro Tonali, who they signed in the summer, was slapped with a 10-month ban from football over gambling offences.
However, according to The Athletic, the Magpies have not yet approached Neves over a possible loan – and the report adds the Portuguese star is not expected to leave the Middle East in January.
