Newcastle eye Sangare move and plan bid for Man Utd transfer target

Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a double swoop for Ibrahim Sangare and Benoit Badiashile this month as they try to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Sangare has been attracting attention from the Premier League over the past few years.

The 24-year-old turned down Southampton to join PSV from Toulouse on a five-year contract for a fee of around £7.5million (€9m) in 2020.

He has made 48 appearances for the Dutch club, but is currently away on international duty with the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, they may struggle to land the defensive midfielder, with Dutch newspaperEDreporting that PSV have no intention of selling Sangare in the middle of the campaign.

According to theDaily Mail, Sangare is not the only player on Newcastle’s shopping list in the January transfer window.

The Magpies have reportedly already been in contact with Monaco over defender Benoit Badiashile.

Defence is a priority for Eddie Howe this month as the team try to escape the drop zone after picking up just one win and one clean sheet from their opening 19 Premier League games.

Badiashile has attracted interest from West Ham, Wolves and Manchester United in recent months, but Newcastle are desperate to acquire his services.

The 20-year-old is now the primary target for central defence after Lille rejected a £30m bid for Sven Botman.

Badiashile is a France Under-21 international and is valued at around £35m by Monaco.

As well as a striker, left-back and midfielder, Howe wants to sign two centre-backs this month and Sevilla’s Diego Carlos remains a target, while Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti is another option for a loan move.

Newcastle are currently in 19th place, two points adrift of Watford in 17th, albeit having played a game more.

The Magpies were beaten 1-0 by League One side Cambridge United in the FA Cup third round on Saturday as new signing Kieran Trippier made a miserable debut.

Howe has won just once since replacing Steve Bruce in November but he promised the fans results would turn soon.

"We're devastated for them,” Howe said. "A great atmosphere, incredible feeling all the way during the game, even when we went behind, really willing the team to find an equaliser.

"It didn't totally surprise me – since I've been here, that's what the supporters have been like.

"Devastated for them, feel their pain and it motivates me to try to repay their faith and their support by winning games very soon.”
