Neville gives his honest Man Utd verdict on Ronaldo, Kane or Haaland for future
Manchester United signed Cristiano Ronaldo on Deadline Day as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked to bring in a no.9 before the end of the summer transfer window.
With Edinson Cavani in and out of the team and nearing the end of his career, Mason Greenwood proved his versatility by operating centrally for United to start off the season.
However, the 19-year-old has now been moved back out wide following Ronaldo's arrival, but the Portuguese star is only a short-term solution for United.
Former United star Gary Neville gave his verdict on United's no.9 situation during Monday Night Football, and commented on who the club should target moving forward.
Harry Kane made it clear that he wanted to leave Tottenham this summer, and United were initially interested until it became clear that Manchester City were front runners to sign the 28-year-old.
Neville spoke about the impact that Kane would have on the current United squad as opposed to Ronaldo: "Harry Kane would get more involved in the build-up, glue the team together, would score as many goals as Ronaldo.
"I don’t think Ronaldo will get involved in the build-up, he will be a poacher. I think United will fall short of winning the Premier League title this season.
"We’re talking about two different things, the greatest player of all time who’s had an 18-year career and assessing it throughout his career versus how he is at 36, they’re two completely different things. I don’t think Manchester United will win the title however caveat that by that atmosphere and that spirit I witnessed on Saturday, if that momentum builds he can do something spectacular.
Neville is extremely excited about the return of his former teammate but has reiterated that Ronaldo is very much a temporary option, urging his side to look for a future star to lead the line.
The Sky Sports pundit said: "Manchester United are going to get a cameo out of Cristiano Ronaldo for 12-18 months, they’re going to get an absolute cameo out of him.
"Kane would be there five or six years. Haaland, if you said to me Haaland, Kane or Ronaldo, I’d say Kane or Haaland because they’ll be there for six years.
"This is a cameo, I think United needed a right winger, they got Sancho, they needed a forward, they’ve got Ronaldo. I’m delighted in the short-term."

Erling Haaland is on everyone's radar as the Borussia Dortmund star will become available for just £68million next summer due to a clause in his current contract.
All of Europe's elite will be battling to secure the Norwegian's signature, and Neville has urged his former side to make a move for the generational talent: "If Haaland becomes available next season they’ll have to do a deal with his agent – which is a big thing for Haaland.
"United should go for them, I don’t think Cristiano coming prevents Haaland from coming. [If Haaland comes] he wouldn’t be on the bench, he’s played with Benzema, Bale, all these great Galacticos at Real Madrid. Why would you put him on the bench? You can fit two strikers in the team surely."
If United were to go for Haaland, it is expected that they will face a battle with neighbours City once more, as Pep Guardiola and Solskjaer continue to battle for forward's.
