Messi makes contact with Guardiola over reunion with Man City transfer
Lionel Messi has made contact with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola as he eyes a reunion with his former Barcelona boss, according to reports.
The Argentine told the Spanish giants that he wants to seek pastures new after a miserable season on and off the pitch.
He is adamant that he wants to quit the Nou Camp and has already begun weighing up his options.
Messi became the world's best player under Guardiola's guidance when the pair teamed up at Barcelona between 2008 and 2012.
And Spanish reporter Xavi Campos has told Catalunya Radio that the forward has held discussions with the City boss over a possible move to the Etihad.
City are one of the few clubs in world football who could afford Messi's mammoth wages.
They have not been hit as heavily as others by the coronavirus pandemic and have the resources to pull off such a move.
Guardiola has already welcomed £65m worth of signings to the Etihad this summer.
Nathan Ake arrived from newly relegated Bournemouth and the highly-rated Ferran Torres from Valencia.
City are ready to spend big in an effort to wrestle back the Premier League title and continue their quest for a Champions League title.

Messi is currently pushing to leave on a free however as per a clause in his contract, for which their is some dispute in Barcelona.
The 33-year-old can opt out of his deal at the start of any summer but his club claim the date to activate it has passed.
Messi's lawyers though believe they can find a loophole with the season ending later than it usually would following the enforced break.
City are not going to be the only club keeping tabs on the situation regarding the six-time Ballon D'Or winner however.
Their rivals Manchester United have been linked as have losing Champions League finalists PSG.
