Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri would reportedly welcome the return of Paul Pogba following claims he wants to sell Cristiano Ronaldo this summer. Allegri returned as Juventus boss in May after two years out of the game. The future of Ronaldo is one of the first tasks the Italian must sort out.

Ronaldo’s contract at Juve expires at the end of next season.

The Portugal superstar is linked with a return to Manchester United, as well as a move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, Pogba’s contract at United is also set to expire in the summer of 2022.

Allegri managed the France midfielder for two years at Juve between 2014 and 2016 before his £89million return to United.

Reports have suggested both clubs would be interested in a potential swap deal involving Pogba and Ronaldo.

Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, Duncan Castles claims Allegri would welcome Pogba back into his squad if a deal can be thrashed out.

Castles said: “I can tell you that Max Allegri is a fan of Pogba, had a very good relationship with Pogba when they worked together at Juventus, and I’m told would be interested in bringing him back to Juventus if that fitted in with the rest of his transfer plans and it could be done in a way that could be accommodated with the limited budget they have.”

Castles’ claims come a week after he said both Juve and Allegri were keen to sell Ronaldo in this window.

Speaking earlier this month, Castles said: “Juventus want to sell Cristiano Ronaldo, or if they can’t sell him, get him off their books for the coming season. They need to do that for FFP purposes.

“They won’t state that publicly but that has been the plan for some time and they’ve been working to find somewhere that is acceptable to Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Allegri’s arrival, and Allegri being given control and authority over transfers, has not changed that.

“Again my understanding is that Allegri, he will not say this publicly, but he would prefer it if Ronaldo’s salary is removed from the books and he is able to use that salary in different areas.”

Therefore it appears Allegri’s stance on a possible swap between Ronaldo and Pogba would be a positive one.

However, Castles says United are yet to decide if they will pursue Ronaldo or England star Jadon Sancho.

“There is a clear priority for [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer and his recruitment specialists, and that is that they sign a forward,” he added.

“Now, they have an interesting setup in that they’re looking both for a centre-forward and for a right-sided forward, but they will probably only sign one of those.”
