Mauricio Pochettino’s viewpoint on Man Utd job with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer facing sack
Mauricio Pochettino would be willing to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, reports say. The Argentine has emerged as the club’s No 1 choice to take over at Old Trafford should results fail to improve. And he remains available following his departure from Tottenham in October 2019.
Manchester United have endured a troublesome start to the new season.
They went into the campaign on a high having finished third in the Premier League table last term, securing a spot in the Champions League in the process.
However, United have been in wretched form so far this season – losing to both Crystal Palace and Tottenham in the Premier League.
Solskjaer, as a result, is already a man under pressure.
Pochettino remains admired by the Red Devils hierarchy, who have thought strongly about hiring him in the past given his good work with both Spurs and Southampton.

And The Mirror say the Argentine would be open to taking over at United should Solskjaer be sacked.
Ed Woodward is prepared to axe the Norwegian if results fail to improve, with the Red Devils facing off against Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton, PSG and RB Leipzig over the next month.
Pochettino is said to be waiting for the ‘right project that will allow him to fully utilise his experience and abilities on the big stage.’
And United would tick all the boxes for the 48-year-old.
United contemplated hiring him as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor in 2013, despite the fact he was early into his time at Southampton, but went with David Moyes instead.

They also thought about giving him the job the following year but, in the end, decided to hire Louis van Gaal instead.
And United wanted Pochettino over Jose Mourinho in 2016, but went for the latter because he was available having left Chelsea months previously.
ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop said earlier in the year that he thought Pochettino would take over at United, despite the club flying under Solskjaer at the time.
“I, like most, have felt that this is too big a job for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer,” Hislop told ESPN FC.
“I still maintain that if it were up to me, and I’ve got Pochettino available, I’m going to go for Pochettino, regardless of the run that they’re in right now.

“But as I said at the time, when he was hired full time, after getting results I think convinced the board, I think he did enough to be given a shot, and then the bottom kind of fell out.
“But now all of a sudden it’s picked back up, at exactly the right time.
“I think it’s more likely he’s the Manchester United manager come September, October, than not.
“Yes [Solskjaer cannot take United further than Pochettino could], I think so.
“He’s got the ship going in the right direction but I still think that if you’re a big-name player and a lot of clubs are interested in you, the lure of playing for Solskjaer pales in comparison to many of the other managers at the big clubs in world football.”
