Mauricio Pochettino ‘will be waiting’ for Frank Lampard to fail at Chelsea

Managers like Mauricio Pochettino will be 'waiting' to swoop in and take the Chelsea job should Frank Lampard fail at Stamford Bridge this term, according to Darren Bent.

The pressure is certainly on the Stamford Bridge legend to deliver after a summer of incredible spending in west London.

Lamps has been given free rein to spend over £200m in recent months, with Marina Granovskaia working her magic to secure the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell.

To add, Hakim Ziyech has arrived, while £18m shot-stopper Edouard Mendy is expected to arrive fairly soon.

However, if Chelsea flop this season after their expensive overhaul, it could be curtains for Lampard.

And Bent believes managers like Pochettino will be ready to steer the ship if he gets the boot.

“The next step is trophies,” he told Goal.

“He has got to deliver trophies as he has bought top players from around Europe.

“Chelsea had a free crack at them and after having a free hit year with a transfer embargo, it has ramped up the pressure twofold.

“Werner, Ziyech, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Havertz are all top players. They are luxuries for any manager in the positions they play.

“For me, he has got to deliver.

“My fear is that if they don’t get off to the best of starts, other great managers like Pochettino will be waiting to go in.

“I am pretty sure that most managers around the world would now quit where they were to manage this squad of players.”
