Mauricio Pochettino’s reported interest in the vacant Manchester United job has been forced by the egotistical behaviour of his Paris Saint-Germain players, with sources claiming the Argentine is ready to quit after becoming unhappy with certain players in the French capital. And according to a report by Marca, he has been proven right with the playing squad’s big names already talking about Zinedine Zidane taking his place whilst he remains in the hotseat in Paris.

Pochettino, 49, joined PSG at the start of the calendar year having spent 12 months unemployed after leaving Tottenham.

Having replaced Thomas Tuchel in the hotseat, Pochettino failed to win the Ligue 1 title despite lying in second upon his arrival by just three points.

He also failed to win the Champions League after being annihilated in the semi-final by Manchester City, and so his start to life in the French capital was not ideal.

The Argentine is expected to touch down in Manchester on Tuesday given that his current side take on United’s arch-rivals City in the Champions League group stages on Wednesday evening.

And that has sparked further rumours that he could leave – given that Marca have reported that big names in the PSG camp are already talking about Zidane becoming their new manager.

The report states that a chain reaction could happen between United and PSG, with Pochettino’s departure leading to the unemployed Zidane becoming PSG boss.

United legend Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly endorses the move for Pochettino, whilst the players at PSG have a huge desire to see Zidane as their boss one day – which could see the wheels turn in motion rather quickly.

The report also states that Zidane’s name has cropped up in various conversations between PSG players, with a majority claiming that they sense something will happen.

And with Kylian Mbappe’s future in the balance with his contract expiring in the coming summer, alongside the additions of big personalities such as Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi, there is a growing sense Pochettino will leave for United.

Solskjaer left a heartwarming message to United fans after being sacked on Sunday morning.

“You know what this club means to me and what I wanted to achieve here,” the Norwegian told United’s official website.

“For the club, for the fans, for the players, for the staff. I wanted us to take the next step to challenge for the league, to win trophies and I only think it’s right that it comes from the horse’s mouth.

“I don’t want to answer all, there’s going to be journalists asking me about interviews but no, I’m not going to do any interviews.

“I want to get it out there, I’m going to leave by the front door, because I think everyone knows I’ve given everything for this club.

“This club means everything to me and together we’re a good match, but unfortunately I couldn’t get the results we needed and it’s time for me to step aside.”
