Martin Keown has claimed the fiery bust-up between Arsenal’s David Luiz and Dani Ceballos could hint at greater disharmony in the squad.

On-loan Real Madrid midfielder Ceballos, no stranger to controversy, was reportedly left with a bleeding nose following a scratch sustained in a collision with defender Luiz in training – with the pair having to be separated, although Ceballos later denied this.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta expressed his fury with the reported incident becoming public knowledge, adding there would be repercussions if he found out the source of the leak.

And Keown, who won three league titles with Arsenal, feels the scuffle at the London Colney training ground might betray a fractious atmosphere at the Emirates.

He told talkSPORT: ‘If it did happen, it wouldn’t be unusual. These things happen.

‘It’s never nice to see it but Arsenal lost that game against Villa heavily and maybe there is a little bit of a problem within the camp and sometimes people get fraught with one another.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta downplayed the incident and claimed not to have seen it happen

‘There’s a fighting spirit there. You won’t want it to happen too often.

‘You need to keep everyone together and Arteta needs to be on top of it.’

Ahead of Sunday’s clash with Leeds United at Elland Road, Sportsmail reported Arteta downplayed what happened.

He said: ‘[It was] nothing [other] than training is competitive and issues happen a lot and those things get resolved immediately within the team and not much to say.

The ex-Manchester City assistant asserted there was no bad blood between Luiz and Ceballos after they exchanged apologies, and claimed he didn’t see the incident.

Arteta said: ‘No, I’ve got a really bad vision from far. That’s why we train behind closed doors.

‘There is no problem between the two. I’ve got a really bad vision from far’.
