Manchester United star Edinson Cavani will sign a new contract with the club until 2023 instead of 2022, it has been claimed. The Uruguay international has been in sensational form recently, scoring five goals from his last five matches. And though he’s been linked with Boca Juniors, a return to South America may be put on hold.
Manchester United signed Cavani back in the summer transfer window, landing the Uruguay international as an alternative to Jadon Sancho.
And, in recent times in particular, he’s really proved his worth.
Cavani has scored five goals in his last five appearances, including a brilliant brace against Roma on Thursday night.
And, now, TNT Sports Argentina claim the 34-year-old is set to sign a two-year contract extension with the Red Devils.
United, upon signing Cavani last year, gave him a one-year deal with an option of a second season.
But Cavani, it seems, is intending to stay at Old Trafford for two more years – instead of just the one.

That will be a major boost to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is determined to keep his No 7 at the Theatre of Dreams as he hunts down winning the Premier League title.
Cavani has become a vital asset for United in recent times, flourishing ever since Anthony Martial picked up an injury in the last international break.
He began his goal glut against Tottenham, scoring in a 3-1 victory in north London.
Cavani was then on target as United beat Granada 2-0, while notching against Burnley three days later.
And he took his United goal tally to 12 for the campaign with his double against Roma, boosting his side’s chances of Europa League glory in the process.
Solskjaer was full of praise for the South American after the game, saying: “Edinson was excellent.

Lionel Messi’s Barcelona anger explained
“I’ve said before, he plays as a centre-forward should be playing, running the channels, being the focal points, creating chances for others, scoring goals.
“He missed a couple of chances as well, but that is what he is there to do really, if he gets three or four chances a game, he will score two or three goals.
“I’m absolutely delighted with him. You can see the difference in him, he’s worked up his fitness having had a long lay-off. He’s making up for lost time.”
He then added: “He is more than a goal poacher, he’s a very good goal scorer. He’s played football for so long; he has a calmness and composure about him.
“The flick for the first goal [Fernandes’], the pass for Mason’s goal, he’s just showing his experience and we need that at this time of the season.
“We want and need our experienced players to step up and he definitely has done.”
Solskjaer also revealed he was doing all he can to tempt Cavani into extending his Premier League stay, saying: “Edinson was out for seven months and not playing football for a very long time before he came to us.
“He’s had a couple of injuries and has worked really hard to show his quality.
“He knows my feelings, he knows that I would love to have him for another year, we have spoken about it. I understand this year has been very difficult, but I promised him that Old Trafford and Manchester is a different place with fans in the stadium.
“I’m doing my best, nights like this [help], hopefully we can get to the final and hopefully he can see himself being here for another year.
“We don’t have to sell the club to him. It’s about the feeling he gets coming into training every day, the environment we created, the team we are creating that he is a part of.
“He has to feel what it’s like to score those goals at the Stretford End with fans, it’s a different feeling.
“We’ve got the best fans and, as a goalscorer, there is no better feeling than scoring and celebrating in front of them.”
United legend Paul Scholes felt Cavani was ‘exceptional’ against Roma.
“He was sensational. As you say, an all round centre-forward performance,” he said.
“You’ve seen your Marcus, your Mason, your Martial – we’re not quite sure they’re centre-forwards. Tonight that tells you, that is a real centre-forward up there.
“Led the line, brought players into play, great pass. Two brilliant goals. What a brilliant finish the first one was. Gave the keeper no chance.
“And a sniffers goal as well. It was a brilliant all round performance. Just disappointed he didn’t get the hat-trick really.”
