Manchester United have been warned that Declan Rice would likely consider a move to Liverpool or Chelsea over a switch to Old Trafford this summer. The Red Devils have failed to live up to expectations this season after making a big splash last summer in signing Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
They currently sit seventh in the table and are already 22 points adrift of league leaders Manchester City at the midway point of the season.
Ralf Rangnick has since taken over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but it’s been a mixed bag of results in recent weeks.
They’ve won just two of their last four league matches and were far from convincing in the recent 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
The January transfer window presents an opportunity for Rangnick to make some changes and bolstering options in midfield has once again been targeted as a priority.

Rice has long been linked with a move to United with the England international continuing to impress with West Ham.
The Hammers have no intention of selling Rice this month while the midfielder has reportedly not expressed a desire to leave.
And talkSPORT reported this week that it would take a bid in excess of £200m to prise Rice away from West Ham in January.
West Ham may well have to fend off interest this summer though as it may be the last chance to get maximum money for the 22-year-old.
With little over two years on his contract, Rice appears reluctant to accept new terms which suggest he may be looking at his options ahead of the summer window.
United are keen admirers and would likely be in the mix, but Glen Johnson believes that Rice would far prefer to join either Chelsea or Liverpool this summer if a move was on the table.
“I don’t think Manchester United could get anyone better than Declan Rice,” he told Bettingodds.
“If he was available, I think Chelsea or Liverpool would be in front of them anyway.
“Those players only come around once. United have got [Donny] van de Beek or whoever and they try to sign all these players in that position for loads of money and it’s just never worked.
“If I was Declan I would be a bit concerned to be honest with you. I’d be thinking Manchester United aren’t the Manchester United of old.
“There used to be a time when, anytime Manchester United came calling, you go.
“It was the number one place. Everyone wanted to go. But they don’t have that appeal anymore.
“I don’t think he’d end up there whether they want him or not.
“But in terms of their business, I think they should just sit tight and wait until the summer and weigh the whole situation up with everybody.”
