Man Utd tipped to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Brendan Rodgers… not Pochettino

Manchester United chiefs have been told to snub Mauricio Pochettino and hire Brendan Rodgers if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is sacked. United have been tipped to part ways with the Norwegian boss if they lose to Everton this weekend.

Solskjaer is reportedly on the verge of being fired by United.

The club icon has been tipped to lose his job during the international break after a spell of poor results.

United have lost four of their last seven games across all competitions, and find themselves in 15th spot in the Premier League table.

They’ve made their worst home start to a league season since 1972, and lost their first European game of the season on Wednesday night.

United were poor against Istanbul Baseksehir, with Demba Ba and Edin Visca taking advantage of a dreadful defensive set-up by Solskjaer’s side.

Solskjaer will now go into Saturday’s trip to face Everton at Goodison Park knowing another defeat could spell the end for his tenure at the helm.

Pochettino has long been considered the front-runner to take over from Solskjaer if he ends up being fired, with the Argentine still out of work.

After being fried by Tottenham last year he was linked with a number of high-profile clubs around the world, but few as strongly as United.

Reports even suggest Old Trafford officials have approached Pochettino about his availability if Solskjaer ends up being sacked, though they are still reluctant to pull the trigger.

But former United player Alan Brazil feels they should opt against hiring the ex-Spurs man and look at Leicester City boss Rodgers instead.

Since leaving Liverpool, Rodgers has gone on to win numerous titles as a manager – mostly in Scotland as Celtic boss.

He returned to England to take over from Claude Puel and guided the Foxes to a fifth-place finish last season.

And Brazil believes he would be the perfect man to take over from Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

He explained on talkSPORT that Rodgers has done a brilliant job since taking over at Leicester and would be the ideal candidate for the hotseat at United.

Brazil said: “I’d give Brendan the job.

“If Ole is to go, I would look no further than Brendan Rodgers.

“Brendan has moved around, I still think of him as the Celtic manager, he’s done a brilliant job.

“Yes he’s had money, but I don’t care.

“He’s done a fantastic job, look at the table.

“He’s top class, he’s a top-class manager.”
