Man Utd star wants Ole Gunnar Solskjaer selection for Man City Carabao Cup clash
Man Utd: Solskjaer says team have 'no excuses' in City game
Manchester United star Dean Henderson has admitted he wants Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to pick him for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup showdown with Manchester City. The Red Devils lock horns with Pep Guardiola’s side aiming to make the final of the competition. They’ve not done that since 2017, back when Jose Mourinho ruled the Old Trafford roost.
United have done well of late, winning eight of their last 10 Premier League matches to emerge as genuine contenders for the crown.
And they’ve been good in the Carabao Cup, too, beating the likes of Luton, Brighton and Everton to make the last four.
Henderson has played every game for United in the competition and, speaking to the club’s official website, has admitted it would be ‘fantastic’ to be involved in the derby clash.
“It’d be fantastic,” said the goalkeeper. “I know a few Man City fans from when I was growing up, and obviously there was rivalry between us, even at school and things like that.
“To beat them and to be involved in it would be a dream come true.
“They’re the sort of things you think about as a young kid. It’d be amazing, and something I’m really looking forward to.”

Henderson wants United to ‘paint the city red’.
They lost 3-2 in the semi-finals of the same competition last term to City, but have beaten Pep Guardiola’s team three times in the past 13 months.
And Henderson said: “Listen, it’s a completely different ball game from Academy level to first team, so this one will mean a lot.
“But obviously the vibe will be massive throughout the city.
“The city is mostly red, and we need to paint it red. But we’re getting better all the time, so hopefully we can get a good result.

“One team has got to win it, so I think both teams will go for it. We’ll probably take the game to them and have a go, and see what comes off.”
Henderson also believes it would be ‘massive’ for United to make the final.
Tottenham currently lie in wait, with Spurs booking their place in the Wembley showpiece with a comfortable 2-0 win over Brighton on Tuesday night.
And Henderson said: “Massive.
“The club’s built on silverware.
“We need to win trophies and obviously we’re improving and evolving on the pitch, but no one cares unless we win trophies.
“So we need to put that to the forefront of our minds, and we need to find a way to do that.
“Whether it’s the Carabao Cup, the Premier League or the Europa League or the FA Cup, we need to turn these good performances into silverware.”
United won the EFL Cup in 2017 under Mourinho, beating Southampton 3-2 in the final.
They’ve had to go four years without a trophy since but there’s a real sense they’re turning a corner ahead of the match against City.
