Man Utd plot David Carmo bid to meet Ole Gunnar Solskjaer transfer demand

Manchester United are one of several clubs eyeing up a move for Braga centre-back David Carmo, according to reports.

The Red Devils missed out on a number of key targets in the summer and autumn window, with Borussia Dortmund’s £108million asking price for Jadon Sancho proving too steep in the current climate.

They were also said to be interested in signing Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, yet in the end the 22-year-old snubbed a potential move to Old Trafford to join Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen his side suffer defensively this term as a result, conceding 14 goals in their first seven games of the new season.

And according to ESPN, United are now considering launching an offer for highly-rated Portuguese defender Carmo in the January transfer window.

It is believed the 21-year-old is attracting interest from several clubs in England and across Europe, nevertheless, with Roma and Fiorentina keen on signing him over the summer.

But United are also in the running to prise him away from Braga at the turn of the year amid Solskjaer’s desire to add a left-sided central defender to his ranks.

His current centre-back pairing of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have failed to impress so far this season, while Eric Bailly has struggled when coming into the side.

United chiefs are therefore prepared to meet Solskjaer’s demands in by strengthening defensively – and Carmo is believed to be one of the players on their shortlist.

However, any move for the Portugal Under-20 star is dependent on at least one of their current centre-backs first being shown the door.
