Manchester United are now reportedly the favourites to sign Erling Haaland this summer according to reports in Germany, with Barcelona said to be out of the race for the Norwegian superstar. Haaland is a man in demand and a host of Europe’s elite are now queuing and ready to commence in a bidding war at the end of the season.

Understandably, Borussia Dortmund have already vowed that they want to keep Haaland at all costs.

He only arrived at Signal Iduna Park in January 2019 but Haaland already looks likely to move on at the end of the season.

Mino Raiola has already met with both Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively to discuss a potential transfer with Alf-Inge Haaland.

But according to German outlet Bild, Barcelona have now decided to rule themselves out of the running.

The report also adds that Manchester United are the favourites for Haaland, which would be a major surprise.

Although United are keen on the 20-year-old goal machine, the involvement of Raiola raises doubts amongst the Old Trafford hierarchy.

United had the chance to sign Haaland before he joined Dortmund but baulked at the agent fees involved in the deal.

Not only that but it would take way over £100million to sign Haaland this summer and that’s if Dortmund are willing to give in.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may even get to keep Edinson Cavani for another year yet, so a new striker is not necessarily his priority.

The Uruguayan has a two-year contract on the table from Boca Juniors but is taking his time to decide his future.

Should he wish to return to South America, United are expected to target a new No 9.

Solskjaer of course worked with Haaland at Molde, where he brought him into the first-team set up before his move to RB Salzburg.

The United boss has admitted on several occasions that he remains in contact with his former player.

It’s Manchester City and Chelsea that pose the biggest threat to United’s pursuit of Haaland, though.

City are in the market for a replacement for Sergio Aguero and look prepared to spend over £100m on a player for the first time in their history.

Haaland’s father Alf-Inge also represented the club during his playing days and Manchester holds a special place in the family’s hearts.

Chelsea are expected to go after a new striker too following the struggles of Timo Werner.

Roman Abramovich is believed to be a big fan of Haaland and could break the bank to bring him to west London.
