Man Utd have ‘proposed a swap deal’ that would see Donny van de Beek join Roma

Manchester United have ‘proposed a swap deal’ which would see outcast Donny van de Beek join Roma.

The Red Devils midfielder, who joined from Ajax for £40m last summer, has suffered a tough campaign with just one goal and two assists in 32 games.

It has led to speculation that the Dutchman could be out of the door even quicker that he came in last summer.

But Italian outlet La Republic [via Roma News] have reported that the midfielder could be used to get another target – who United will get a look at in their Europa League semi-final.

Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, 21, has been out of action throughout the season with an ACL injury.

The Italian, though, has impressed for the last two seasons in the country’s capital by scoring 14 goals in 69 appearances.

His performances saw the Red Devils consider a transfer battle with Tottenham last summer, with a previous injury also bringing the youngster’s price down.

And the report states that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to use Van de Beek as part of a swap deal to get Zaniolo in, having ‘proposed an exchange’.

The feeling appears to be mutual by Roma, who has ‘liked’ the former Ajax midfielder for a long time.

But there are problems for both of the teams, with the Serie A side set to struggle with the 24-year-old’s wage demands in an ‘unattainable’ dream.

While Roma’s owner Ryan Freidkin and general director Tiago Pinto have shut down the idea of Zaniolo leaving, saying he ‘can’t be touched’.
